Rotary Foundation News

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF ROTARY FOUNDATION GRANTS?

During the past 100 years, the Foundation has spent $3 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects. With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world. The Rotary Foundation impacts communities through our grants program, which offers two offers two opportunities for funding:

District Grants
–  fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in your community and communities abroad. Each district chooses which activities it will fund with these grants.

How it works: Districts may use up to 50% of their District Designated Fund, based on the amount of DDF generated from a District’s Annual Fund giving three years prior, including Endowment Fund earnings.

Global Grants
– fund large-scale international activities with sustainable and measurable results that support Rotary’s six areas of focus. Activities include humanitarian projects, scholarships, and vocational training teams.

How it works: The minimum budget for a global grant project is $30,000. The Foundation’s World Fund provides a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $200,000. Clubs and districts contribute District Designated Funds (DDF) and/or cash contributions that the World Fund matches. DDF is matched 100% and cash is matched at 50%.

As a Rotarian, you are eligible to participate in any one of these programs. Which one interests you?

Chicago Heights-Park Forest is developing a project for Toilet Blocks for Girls in Schools in India with the Rotary Club of Baroda, India.

World Polio Day: Rotary has made tremendous progress in the fight to end polio. With your help, we’ve reduced worldwide cases by 99.9 percent since 1988. We still have important work to do to address challenges in Afghanistan and Pakistan — the remaining countries where the wild poliovirus continues to paralyze children.

On this World Polio Day, 24 October, thousands of Rotary clubs around the world will hold events and fundraisers to recognize our progress in the global fight to end polio. Here are a few ways you can make an impact:

  • Raise awareness: Watch 5 Ways to End Polio with your club to learn more about the importance of ending polio and what you can do to help End Polio Now.
  • Start a conversation: Like our End Polio Now Facebook page for polio updates and live events, and create a Facebook fundraiser to help us End Polio Now.
  • Host an event: This World Polio Day, you can host an event, attend a local event, or tune in to our World Polio Day Online Global Update.
  • Fundraise: Emphasize that thanks to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, contributions from your members to PolioPlus will be tripled, getting us even closer to a polio-free world.

World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members all over the world to gather, recognize our progress, and get ready to eradicate polio. However your club contributes this World Polio Day, we appreciate your leadership in taking action to help End Polio Now.
